You can also use Chat Translation on Webex, the global video conferencing platform.
Try “Chat Translation for Webex” (hereinafter CTW), available within the Webex environment, and experience smarter global collaboration with real-time translation that breaks down language barriers!
1. Launch the App
- The ‘Host’ who is hosting the Webex meeting: After starting the meeting in Webex, click the [Apps] icon in the bottom menu. (*Only the host can share the Chat Translation embedded app with participants.)
- Select the ‘Chat Translation’ app from the list to launch it.
2. Share the App with Participants (Host only)
To ensure all participants can use the translation service simultaneously, click the [Open for all] button at the bottom of the app screen to share the session.
3. Voice Translation Settings (Speaking & Listening)
Translate My Voice (Set “Translate My Voice to the Other Party” to “ON”)
- If you want to record your voice on the CTW screen and have what you say “translated” and delivered to the other party, click the toggle button to set it to ON. When set to OFF, your voice will not be picked up by Chat Translation and the translation will not be displayed.
- If you want to view only other users’ translations without having your own voice translated, please set the toggle button to OFF.
4. Share the app with meeting participants (Host permissions)
5. Microphone Setup
If voice recognition is not working properly, go to the settings menu within the app and ensure your preferred microphone device is correctly selected.
6. Language Settings & Changes
Default Setting: The app automatically detects your browser's default language to display translations.
Changing Languages: To view translations in a different language, click the Language icon (globe shape) at the top-left and select your desired Target Language.
7. Real-time Transcript Updates
If you change or update the target language during a meeting, the entire chat history (Transcript) will be updated to the new language. Translations will be processed sequentially, starting from the most recent dialogue.
💡 Pro Tips
For Hosts: You can host a session using your existing Webex account (Free or Paid) without creating a separate Chat Translation account.
For Guests: No account is required to join a session.
Web Browser Users: Due to browser security policies, guests joining via a web browser must open Chat Translation in a 'New Window' to enable microphone access. For a more seamless, two-way communication experience, we recommend using the Webex Desktop App.
